Grace Bedford Brown

Actor | Singer | Dancer | Musician

About Me

Hi! My name is Grace Bedford Brown and I am a passionate performer and artist. I grew up in Lexington, Kentucky as the youngest of 5 children. I loved to sing, dance, and perform from the moment I could walk and was encouraged by my family, friends, and teachers to cultivate my talent. I spent summers splashing in the pool, going to summer camps, and performing on community stages. I was lucky enough to be in a city that had an amazing performing arts school, SCAPA,  which I am grateful to have attended from fourth grade to graduating high school. When I wasn’t in production for my own shows, I was often tagging along to one of my siblings performances or concerts.

I graduated with a BFA in Musical Theatre from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. In my time there, I enjoyed taking part in many main stage productions, Southern Illinois Dance Company, and Fierce Musical Theatre, where I served as Treasurer and eventually, Vice President. I also received a minor in American Sign Language— which is a passion of mine. In 2020, much like the rest of the world, I adopted a Covid kitty companion, my darling Matilda Ruth (middle name inspired by the great RBG). I cherish all the time I get to spend with her snuggling in bed or singing at the piano together. When I'm not performing, I'm trying my best to exude the spirit of Mary Poppins with the style of Fran Fine, being a nanny to the best kiddos. I also love being Auntie Gravy Boat to my perfect niece and nephew. I'm always up for finding a new adventure and am currently learning the new (and very challenging) skill of Aerial Silks! When I'm not in the theatre or hanging out with kiddos, its safe to say you can probably find me outside/near a body of water or tearing up the nearest 7-Eleven to get a Slurpee.

Throughout my life, art has been the center of what I do. From making plays in the basement with my friends to traveling to the 49th State for half a year— it is always there. The theatre never fails to bring a sense of peace amidst the chaos.  I’ve been fortunate to always have art through such a wild and unpredictable world and time that we live in. As an artist, but more importantly—as a person, I am always striving to cultivate empathy and connection in a world that lacks both. For me, this mission comes first and foremost with the art and projects I choose to create and the stories that I tell. It also comes from educating myself and others around me so that the world can evolve into a kinder and warmer place for everyone.
